DESCRIPTION:FCDOA is organising an Online Talk by  \nLord Andrew Adonis – Ernest Bevin: Labour’s Churchill \n8 September from 11.00-12.00 on ZOOM \n\nErnest Bevin was one of the greatest and most inspirational figures of the twentieth century. Born in abject poverty to a single mother\, and with virtually no formal education\, Bevin went on to become the founder of the largest trade union in British history and then made it to the top of politics and government.As a statesman\, he was second only to Churchill in impact and legacy. Listen to Andrew Adonis\, himself a Minister and Statesman\,  skilfully bring to life this extraordinary figure.  Lord Adonis will explore Bevin’s powerful legacy and lessons for our own age\, restoring this charismatic statesman to  his rightful place among the pantheon  of Britain’s greatest political leaders. \nTicket is £5. \n \n

New visit will be organised at later stage\n\nFreemasons’ Hall \nUsed as a masonic meeting place since 1775\, the current building – situated in Great Queen Street between Holborn and Covent Garden – is the third structure on this site. \nBuilt in the art deco style between 1927 and 1933 as a memorial to the 3\,225 Freemasons who died on active service in the First World War\, it comprises an impressive Grand Temple with a mosaic ceiling and an array of sculptures including the figures of Prudence\, Temperance\, Fortitude and Justice. DESCRIPTION:FCDOA is organising another online talk\nSir John Sawers will be in conversation with Sir Jeremy Greenstock \nUK Security challenges and the Integrated Review\n28 September at 11.00\non Zoom \n\n  \nSir John Sawers will be in conversation with Sir Jeremy Greenstock. Jeremy’s career started as an Arabist and then moved on to European and transatlantic issues. His senior posts were Political Director\, Ambassador to the UN in New York and finally Special Envoy for Iraq in the Coalition Provisional Authority.He and John\, who during his career was Political Director\, Ambassador to Egypt and to the United Nations and then Chief of MI6\, will explore the security issues and challenges facing the UK and will look at the adequacy of the proposals in the recent integrated review. \nWe expect the discussion between two of our leading political and security experts to look at how the changing politics in Britain is impacting our foreign and security policies and shaping our role in the World.   As well as the issues Britain has to address vis-a-vis America and Europe\, and managing our relations with China and Russia\, John and Jeremy will touch on climate change\, technology and migration as drivers of the new world order.  As former Permanent Representatives to the United Nations they will also cover the international system and what is needed to sustain the rules based order in which a middle power like Britain has such an interest in preserving.
