DESCRIPTION:Event:     FCOA Visit to the Military Intelligence HQ Museum and Medmenham Collection\, Chicksands \nDate:        9 July at 13:00 Prompt \nPlaces available:    20    Allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.  If space allows nearer the day\, non-FCOA members may be eligible\, but please check with Tim Handley first. \nPrice per person: £15 \nDescription: The Museum aims to share the secret of intelligence with a wider audience\, and houses a great many objects\, special exhibits research and archive material\, telling the story of the Intelligence Corps and military intelligence\, and the part it has played in UK military intelligence operations from the Crimea onwards.  Interactive displays focus on the honours and awards received by members of the Corps\, and pay tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. \nThe SOE display commemorates over 600 of its members of the Intelligence Corps\, and houses a comprehensive collection of artefacts brought over from post-war France.  Further displays cover the BRIXMIS intelligence gathering mission based in East Germany\, and American radio operations that took place in Chicksands from 1950 until 1996. \nWe will be given a talk on the Medmenham Collection\, which covers the history of military aerial photographic interpretation (PI) from the Boer wars\, World Wars 1 and 2\, Palestine\, Suez Iraq and Afghanistan.  In WWII\, PI played a crucial role identifying the threat of a German invasion in 1941; the preparations for D-Day in 1944\, and probably their greatest achievement\, the discovery of the German V1 and V2 launch sites. \nAs the Museum is on an MOD base\, FCOA have to provide names and car details in advance\, but you must bring photographic id on the day. \nThe Museum does not have tea or refreshment facilities\, but there are cafes and pubs in the area. \nGetting there:  By train and taxi: the nearest stations are Bedford or Hitchin\, taxis will be available at these stations. \nBy car:  Chicksands is on the A507\, Ampthill Road\, west of Shefford\, SatNav Postcode SG17 5QB \nApply on-line or by post:  Up to 20 places will be available \nClosing date:   4 July 2019 \nContact:            Tim Handley@fco.gov.uk          FCOA\, Room KG 43\, King Charles Street\, London SW1A 2AH \n____________________________________________________________________________ \nFCOA Visit to Military Intelligence HQ Museum and Medmenham Collection; Tuesday 9 July \nName:                         Accompanied by (Name):                         Tel:                         Mobile: \n  \nMethod of travel:  (please circle one)              Train/taxi                             Car \nRefunds:    Please note that as FCOA is committed to expenditure for this visit\, no refunds may be offered \nApplying by post:  Please complete this slip and return it with your cheque to the FCOA\, including an SAE if you want to be notified by post. \n
