SUMMARY:THE GARRICK CLUB VISIT
DESCRIPTION:A visit to the Garrick Club has been arranged for Tuesday 26 November at 10 am.\nTea/coffee and biscuits will be served on arrival in the Morning Room. The Club was\nfounded in 1831 and moved to its present premises in 1864. It houses the largest\nand most significant collection of British theatrical works of art and has over 1000\npaintings\, drawings and pieces of sculpture on display. Artists represented in the\ncollection include Johan Zoffany\, Thomas Lawrence and John Everett Millais\, whilst\npaintings of every British actor of note\, from David Garrick to Michael Gambon\, hang\non the Club walls. Many of the major literary\, theatrical and artistic personalities of\nthe last two centuries have been members\, including Charles Dickens\, William\nMakepeace Thackeray\, Henry Irving\, W S Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. The tour will\nbe led by Sarah Hughes and she will take in all the main rooms of the Club and point\nout the highlights of the collection. Please note there is a dress code which is called\nformal smart casual! No jeans\, denim\, shorts\, trainers or gym shoes are permitted\nand men should wear a jacket and collared shirt\, ideally also a tie. \nGetting there: the Club is located on Garrick Street in Covent Garden. The nearest\ntube is Leicester Square (Piccadilly/Northern Lines). The Club is the large building\non the right hand side of Garrick Street coming from Leicester Square Station. \nApplying online: 14 places can be booked online. Once these have been\nassigned\, you will no longer be able to book.
