SUMMARY:ST PAUL'S CATHEDRAL
DESCRIPTION:Architecture specialist\, David Thompson\, will lead a tour of Christopher Wren’s masterpiece\, St Paul’s Cathedral.  Built over 35 years between 1675 and 1710 under the jurisdiction of five monarchs\, Wren saw the great church through to completion.  English Baroque in style\, we will consider how it is engineered and decorated as we tour both exterior and interior of this magnificent building\, and also hear of the great man’s often less than smooth path overseeing the largest building project in Europe.  By special permission we will gain access to the Triforium\, to enjoy the fabulous view down the nave and also see the Great Model\, paid from Wren’s own pocket\, illustrating his original concept design. \nPlease be aware that the Triforium is accessed by 141 steps – wide and shallow – and a reasonable degree of mobility is required. \nWe will meet at the statue of Queen Anne\, central to the West Front steps\, at 10.30. \nThe nearest Underground station is St Paul’s on the Central Line.  The Cathedral is also a short walk from Mansion House station on the District/Circle lines and many buses run nearby. \nApplying online:  10 places can be booked online.  Once these have been assigned\, you will no longer be able to book.  I shall email joining instructions. \nRefunds:  the cost (minus an administration fee) of booking an event will normally be refunded on cancellation up to one month before the event or up to the point where we incur expenditure for reservations\, whichever is the earlier. \nClosing date:     Wednesday 5 February 2020 \nCynthia Butterworth                                        Cynthia.butterworth@fco.gov.uk\nFCOA\, Room KG.43\, King Charles Street\, London SW1A 2AH\nTel:  020 7008 0967
